Salam πŸ‘‹

If you'd like to know a bit more about me, here's a post for you.

My name is Mohamed Yassir Khalid. I know, confusing.
Last name is Khalid, and I've got two names: Mohamed and Yassir. I go by either. And no, it's not a middle name. It's just that I.. have two names.

As of writing this (Jan 28th 2025), I'm 27 years old. I founded WebMastry back in 2021 which I still run to this day, it's a small company that does specialized web development work.

In 2018 I got my "Licence fondamentale en Γ‰conomie et Gestion" in my hometown Beni Mellal, according to Claude.ai that's the equivalent to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). I didn't take university too seriously, but the topic of my studies has been and still is something I fondly care about. I remember being so fond of the business world, fascinated by how it works, how money moves, offer, demand, accounting tricks (although I disliked running the numbers), global economy and some more..

I started freelancing in some small data analysis gigs immediately after getting my degree. Quitting university after getting my degree (3 years) was a compromise I had come to with my parents. My parents really, really believed in academia. I remember the conversations I had with them around the subject, and how otherworldly the idea of quitting was to them. I have to say though, they never pushed back overly. I think they could see from a mile away that I wasn't exactly the academia type. They made sure I understood the amplitude of what I wanted to do, and let me do it.

7 ish years later, I don't think so down on academia anymore. Do I feel like I should have stayed? Definitely not. Do I think that there are things I didn't get by not staying? Definitely.

When I started freelancing I, obviously, did not know what I was doing. But I learned on the job. One or two years into it, I decided I wanted to learn web development. It seemed at the time that all the cool projects I wanted to do required knowing how to build web apps.. So I took the plunge. Very characteristic of me. No income for a considerable amount of time while I learned. Fast forward to early 2021, WebMastry was founded. I think that story is more fitting of another post.
